The show features 73 perpetual trophies, each carrying a piece of our history. Year after year, they gather the engraved names of winners, creating a living timeline that links generations of hounds and hunts. This tradition honors past achievements and inspires future competitors to add their own chapter to the ongoing story of Bryn Mawr.
In 1983, Julian M. Marshall, President of the Bryn Mawr Hound Show Association from 1983 to 1987 and Hon. Pres until 1999, led the show through a major crisis when a fire destroyed the Radnor Hunt kennel building and much of the equipment. He quickly reorganized the show as a nonprofit, rallied support from foxhound packs, and oversaw volunteers as they rebuilt the necessary equipment in time for the 1983 event.
In honor of his leadership and lifelong contributions to hounds and hunting, the Julian Marshall Award was established by his family.
Presented at the show’s Friday night opening dinner, this prestigious award recognizes a living individual for outstanding lifetime contributions to hounds and hunting.
Quite literally, I grew up with beagles. During the 2nd World War, the Treweryn Beagles were kenneled at my grandparent’s farm – where I grew up. My mother and grandmother took care of the beagles and an uncle hunted them and was acting Master during the War. My family was very involved in foxhunting and beagling.
Cash prizes will be awarded in each hound division as follows
Prizes go to the huntsman whose hounds earn the most points in Competition.
No points will be awarded to any hound removed from the judging area before being excused by the judge.
To be eligible for a huntsman’s prize, exhibitors must show in the Pack Class.
The huntsman’s cash prize will be awarded after the Pack Class, and those results will be included in the final point total.
Livery is required for all Pack Classes. Show management may waive this requirement—no later than lunchtime—in the event of an excessive heat index.

Packs will be judged concurrently with the four foxhound pack classes by a separate judge. Judging criteria include attitude, cohesive behavior, biddability, and responsiveness to the huntsman.
The winner of this class is not automatically the winner of their breed’s pack class.
Our Junior Handler classes are a highlight of the show and always draw a crowd. Juniors present their hounds in two rings—divided by age group and by foot packs versus foxhounds. The rings are packed with spectators, families, and hunts cheering them on, creating one of the most spirited and memorable moments of the day.
